Greenprinting Project Needs Support

A coalition of Door County citizens is making an effort to help raise awareness and funds for the Greenprinting software program developed by the National Trust for Public Land (TPL), which would help provide strategic scientific data for Door County officials charged with development decisions and conservation/resource protection.

By law, Smart Growth Plans need to be adopted by 2010, so there is increasing urgency for strategic development decisions and convservation/resource protection.

The Greenprinting Project will significantly enhance implementation of the county and local municipal Smart Growth Plans. Mike Serpe, Door County Administrator, along with Mariah Goode, Door County Planning Department Director, Bill Schuster, Soil and Water Department Director and Mike Grimm, Conservation Ecologist Door County Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, are eager to move the project forward, as are the coalition partners.

The project is estimated to cost $129,144, and funds raised to date from financial and in kind support total $92,738. It is hoped that the $36,406 dollar difference can be raised through financial support from the private sector.

Interested residents have the opportunity to meet Mike Serpe, Mariah Goode and others, who will explain this program and its significant value to the county. A presentation in Northern Door will be held Sept. 4, 9:30 – 11 am, at Eagle Harbor Inn, Ephraim. A presentation will also be held at Crossroads at Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay on Sept. 4, 1 – 2:30 pm. Coffee and rolls will be provided.
