Greisen signed by UFL’s Virginia Destroyers

• Former Sturgeon Bay High School standout Chris Greisen was signed by the Virginia Destroyers of the United Football League June 16. As the starting quarterback for the Florida Tuskers for most of the 2010 season Greisen was twice honored as Offensive Player of the Week. Greisen was a 7th round draft choice of the Arizona Cardinals in 1999.

• The Wisconsin Legislature removed measures in the state budget that would have been most crippling to the Door County Highway Department. However, the county still faces a loss of about $300,000 in state road aids. The state also included a provision that bars county highway departments from doing projects for cities with a population over 5,000 people, meaning the county can no longer perform work for the city of Sturgeon Bay. Earlier versions of the budget bill would have cost the county at least $500,000 and would have prevented the department from doing work for other municipalities.

• The City of Sturgeon Bay became the last of Door County’s 19 municipalities to re-up as a member of the Door County Tourism Zone at its June 20 meeting. The original intergovernmental agreement bound municipalities to the zone for three years, ending Dec. 31, 2011. The new agreement has no sunset date.
