Ground Broken for Northern Door YMCA Addition

Construction on the new 3,500 square foot Lifestyle Center addition to the Northern Door YMCA Program Center will begin the first week in December. A ground breaking ceremony was held last week. Planning for this addition and renovation program has been underway for more than three years. The new Lifestyle Center will be built south of the gym, overlook Gibraltar Road and will house the cardio and free weight equipment. More than $1.4 million has been raised for this phase of the project.

“The new space at the Y will provide opportunities for new and expanded programs in a more comfortable and user friendly environment. We are fortunate to have a community of donors who understand the importance of the Y in Northern Door County and appreciate we need to continue to invest in our facilities,” said YMCA Board Chair Steve Abrahamson.

Fundraising efforts will continue to generate the funding to complete the renovation of the existing lifestyle center area, remodel the current “Blue Room” space and provide new and replacement equipment for the new cardio and free weight area. A minimum of $200,000 is needed to complete these projects.

The YMCA currently has a $200,000 challenge gift which will match each new dollar raised with an additional dollar.

The contracts which have been signed for the Phase Two projects also include the renovation of the shower rooms and restrooms and the installation of a new gym roof. It is hoped that the new spaces will be open to the public early next summer. To support the fundraising efforts, call Drew Richmond at 920.868.3660.
