Guitar, Flute and Vocal Provide Inspiration for Visual Art

Evan Montgomery and Jana (Nyberg) Meckler will perform July 3 at Gallery 42.

Classical and jazz guitarist Evan Montgomery and flutist/jazz vocalist Jana (Nyberg) Meckler will provide the musical inspiration for the next g42 (Gallery 42) art and music jam on Saturday, July 3, 2 – 4 pm, This talented duo will perform a variety of music while gallery owner Tim Nyberg interprets the music on canvas.

For the past three seasons, Tim has been doing this “performance art” alongside musician friends during his well-attended art and music jams. Tim, a professional commercial artist and award-winning illustrator, paints quickly, often finishing three to five paintings during the two hour jam sessions.

Nyberg explains, “I usually start by trying to quickly mark the canvas with the first image (or shape) that comes to mind when I hear the music. Beyond that, I just go with the colors of the notes and follow the motion, the textures and rhythms that the music provides.”

Jana is Tim and Julie Nyberg’s daughter, and Evan is a member of the Jana Nyberg Group (which occasionally features their son Jake Nyberg on drums and always Jana’s husband, Adam Meckler, on trumpet).

Tim will paint with the entire Jana Nyberg Group at Chef Andy’s Hillside Inn in Ellison Bay on Tuesday, July 13 at 5 pm.
