Hal Prize Draws Nearly 700 Entries

What comes next?

Thank you to everyone who submitted creative work to the 2022 Hal Prize! It was another successful year, with 686 total submissions. Now that submissions have closed, what happens next?

A panel of prescreening judges who live in Door County and are skilled in their respective genres will review the submissions, and those that pass this initial screening will then go to our 2022 contest judges: Adrian Matejka, poetry; Angela Palm Hopkins, nonfiction; Joshua Philip Johnson, fiction; and Lars Topelmann, photography.

Submitters whose work has been moved on will be notified through Submittable on Sept. 30. From there, our judges will review the submissions and select winners. The announcement of winners is made with the release of the publication in November.
