Half Marathon Registration Opens

Registration for the 8th annual Door County Half Marathon and Nicolet Bay 5k opens Oct. 1, 2014.

The capped race filled more than two months before race day each of the past two years, and organizers expect it to fill even faster in 2015. Last year’s race drew 2,700 runners to enjoy the unmatched beauty of Peninsula State Park.

The race has been called one of the best in the Midwest by Runner’s World writer Jenny Hadfield. Competitor magazine and Active.com writer Tom Held of The Active Pursuit likened the course to “running in a wooded cathedral.” Such praise, plus Door County’s reputation as one of the premier vacation destinations in the country, has made the race a must-run on the nation’s half marathon circuit.

The USATF-certified course is run entirely on closed roads that guide runners past historic landmarks, through peaceful forests, and atop the Niagara Escarpment to reveal spectacular bluff-top views of Lake Michigan.

Those seeking extra motivation can join the Run for A Cause program and run for charity. The program has raised more than $70,000 in the last five years.
