Half Marathon Welcomes 2,000 runners Saturday

The Door County Half Marathon and Nicolet Bay 5k returns to Peninsula State Park this Saturday, May 7. The race will bring 2,000 runners to the park for the two races who will spill into local bars and restaurants after the race to celebrate a race well run.

If you’re not one of those runners, here are a few things you should know:

• Many roads in Peninsula State Park will be closed from 8 am – 2 pm while the race is underway. Visitors will not be able to access the boat launch at Nicolet Bay during those hours, and can expect limited access by vehicle to many areas of the park. Roads will be fully open by 2 pm.

• The Half Marathon starts at 10 am. The Nicolet Bay 5k starts at 10:15 am.

• Park trails, including Sunset Path, will be open as usual.

• This is the 14th running of the race, which started in 2008 to draw runners to the peninsula at and extend the spring shoulder season for area businesses.

• The race generates more than a million dollars in estimated economic impact each year as runners and their families spend on local hotels, restaurants, shops and activities.

• The first finishers will complete the hilly, 13.1-mile course at about a 5:45 minute-per-mile pace
