Hands On Art Studio Hosts Great Pumpkin Lighting

Last year, about 400 hundred pumpkins were carved and displayed at the Great Pumpkin Lighting. Photo by Len Villano.

It’s incredible what one can do with a pumpkin. A friend of mine carved a convincing Clay Matthews the other day, another a unicorn. I stared at my orange pumpkin with a dull kitchen knife in hand…what to carve? It’s as difficult as picking out your Halloween costume.

Well Hands On Art Studio owners Cy Turnbladh and Karon Ohm are here to help, with not only their artistic encouragement and advice, but a slew of great pumpkin carving tools and a pile of “gut-free” pumpkins ready to be turned into works of art. (For free!)

Oct. 25 and 26, the studio will host their annual Great Pumpkin Lighting, featuring live music, snacks, drinks, and a culminating lighting ceremony at 6 pm on Oct. 26 that will leave you speechless.

Len Villano attended the event last year and captured these images of the carvers at work and the brilliant end result.

Hands On Art Studio is located at 3655 Peninsula Players Road in Fish Creek. They are open daily from 10 am – 6 pm through the end of October and will be open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 10 am – 5 pm, November – April.
