Though you won’t find green beer, you will find Hardbean & McHonzik playing traditional Irish pub sing-alongs, and the crowd dancing for their pride at The Cork’s 11th annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration.

Hardbean & McHonzik – a duo comprised of Dan Hildebrand, half Irish, and Pete Honzik, a wee little bit Irish – have been playing together for 30 years. Honzik’s strong affinity for Irish folklore and Hildebrand’s love of the sea brought the duo to “combine seafaring folklore with Irish traditions and made it into a St. Pat’s Day appreciation act,” said Honzik.

The Cork’s annual celebration has become a tradition over the last decade, celebrating many aspects of Irish culture. Co-owner Michael Callsen said, “I’ve been fortunate enough to be in Ireland twice for St. Patrick’s Day, so I try to bring that tradition here.”

“If you really want to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, we bring authenticity, creativity and fun,” remarked Honzik. While enjoying the sight of bartenders and patrons wearing an assortment of kilts, partygoers will hear “The Scotsman,” a song about a man who won first prize at the county fair for his kilt, among many other tunes.

Honzik noted, “We just love the people, they embody what we are trying to do – get friends together to have a good time.”

Get your jigging shoes on. Take part in the sidewalk parade. Enjoy a meal, or two. And go be Irish for a day in Kewaunee!
