Hardworking Hosts of Shanty Days Arts and Crafts Fair

Katie Brandt and Tina Lawrence are the driving force behind Algoma’s Shanty Days’ Arts and Crafts Fair and the Street Fair. The two took over the job of running the street fair in 2012, and along the way, they’ve made some changes. “We’ve changed the look, the view of the place, and made jurying more intense,” said Lawrence. The partners travel around the state on their own dime to find the best vendors with quality homemade products.

All their hard work pays off for Shanty Days, as the Art/Craft Fair and Street Fair combine to be the biggest money maker for the three day weekend. One recent addition the partners have made is an option for food to be available to the vendors, who are also working longs hours and often can’t leave their sites. Also at the Arts/Craft fair, live music will be playing at various times, all arranged by the hosts.

The Juried Arts and Crafts Fair is located on the lawns of the Algoma Public Library and Algoma Elementary School (corner of Fremont and 4th Streets). As you shop, enjoy bluegrass trio Ryan Thompson and the Townlines from 12:30 – 4:30 pm on Saturday and the Algoma Community Band 12 – 1 pm on Sunday. The fair will run from 10 am – 5 pm on Aug. 11, and 10 am – 4 pm on Aug. 12.
