Hardy Opens Two New Exhibits

The Francis Hardy Center for the Arts (FHCA) is preparing for its opening of the “Mosaic Project” and “Collection Invitational Exhibition,” which will take place on Friday, July 18 from 5 – 7 pm at the Francis Hardy Gallery on Anderson Dock.

The artists exhibiting in the “Collection Invitational Exhibition” will showcase two recently completed, unique and original works of art that comment on their style and chosen media. Each artist has donated one work to the FHCA where it will be available for purchase through a silent auction. The silent auction of the donated pieces will commence at the opening and run until the close of the exhibit on September 1, 2008.

In conjunction with the collections exhibition, the “Mosaic Project” will also be unveiled. It consists of over 300 six-by-six inch canvases completed by community members and professional artists throughout Door County and beyond. Artists have worked in watercolors, oils, acrylics, metal, glass, paper, and fiber. The completed ‘mosaic’ will be a true combination of all different media, subject matter, color, and style.

“It is sure to be an awesome sight when all of the canvases come together to create the mosaic,” said Elizabeth Meissner, Exhibitions and Community Relations Director of the FHCA. “It will collectively showcase the unique ideas of all participants and to be a testament to the communities support for the arts in Door County.”

The Community Mosaic Project is a new outreach initiative that focuses on encouraging a community-wide effort to help raise awareness of the arts in Door County. Each canvas will be available for purchase through a blind buy. To obtain a ‘mosaic tile’ number please call 920.854.2210 or stop down at the Francis Hardy Gallery and tell the volunteer docent what number you would like to buy for $20 (plus $2.50 shipping and handling). All proceeds go towards supporting the Francis Hardy Center for the Arts and its mission to promote the arts throughout Door County.
