Hardy’s Steamroller Event Needs Artists

The Hardy Gallery has launched a Call for Artists to participate in the “Wisconsin Idea Relief Alphabet Project.” In the summer of 2015 the Hardy Gallery hosted a steamrolled event on Anderson Dock outside their Ephraim gallery. Members of the community were encouraged to carve sections of the human figure on large MDF board to be used in a life-size steamroller printing event. Once again the Hardy is playing host to the steamroller event inspired by the alphabet and themes of Wisconsin. The event will be held Sept. 2-3, 12 – 5 pm, on Anderson Dock in Ephraim.

Each participant is assigned one letter from the alphabet or a special character. Participants are free to use any font style for their character and illuminate it with a Wisconsin-based image integrated with the character. Once all letters and characters are completed, the 6×6-inch blocks are returned to The Hardy Gallery where they will be used on Labor Day weekend.

The Hardy is seeking artists to carve letters of the alphabet onto 6×6-inch MDF boards free of charge. Blocks are available for interested participants and can be received by calling 920.854.2210 or emailing Sarah Zamecnik at [email protected].

Everyone who carves a block and helps with the event will receive a print of up to four characters of their choice. This project was inspired by the “Wood Engravers Alphabet” done in collaboration with the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum of Two Rivers. All blocks will have the option to be donated to the museum after the completion of the project.
