Harvest Fest in Sturgeon Bay Sept. 15

Sturgeon Bay kicks off the 2018 fall season Sept. 15 with Harvest Fest & Street Art Auction. Harvest Fest begins at 9 am on Third Avenue and finishes at 5 pm. The live Street Art Auction starts at 5 pm in Martin Park.

A wide variety of artisans, crafters and local businesses will fill Third Avenue for a unique shopping experience. In-store specials, live music, and a plethora of food and drinks will be offered as well.

Bring your appetite for breakfast, lunch and dinner because lots of food drink vendors will be there. Food includes burritos, gyros, brats, burgers, pizza, cheese curds and funnel cakes. Coffee, bloody mary’s, Door County wine and beer will be available during the day.

Milwaukee band Hot Off the Grill will entertain the crowd from 11 am to 4 pm on Third Ave. near Third Avenue Playhouse. Watch Sturgeon Bay Mayor Thad Birmingham tap the firkin at Starboard Brewing Company at noon. Cedar Crossing hosts “Bags for United Way at Cedar Crossing Beer Garden” at 10 am. The cost to participate in the Packers vs. Bears and Brewers vs. Cubs bags tournament (otherwise known as cornhole) is $10/ two-person team. Prizes will be awarded to the winners. Proceeds will benefit United Way of Door County. While you’re there don’t forget to sip and savor their Door County cherry cosmopolitan, sangria and their German beef steak rouladen sandwich.

Two professional chalk artists, Julie Jilek and Kitty Dyble Thompson, will create three-dimensional chalk masterpieces on the pavement. Jilek will be located on Third Ave. in front of Door County Hardware. Thompson will be located on Nebraska St. in front of the Door County Library. People of all ages are invited to participate in Chalk the Bay Community Contest. Children and adults are encouraged to sign up for the contest and draw on the sidewalk for a chance to win awards and prizes. Chalking begins at 9 am and ends at 1 pm. The Old Bolts Car Club hosts the 13th annual Classic Car Show along Third Ave., between Michigan St. and Quincy St. from 8 am – 4 pm, with the awards ceremony starting at 3 pm. Look at and learn more about the hundreds of classic cars that flood the streets. Proceeds from the show benefit Boys & Girls Club of Door County, Lakeshore CAP, and Adopt-a-Soldier. As Harvest Fest winds down, Dow Jones will shake up Martin Park 3:30-5pm with covers of favorite rock n’ roll songs. Come down, buy a beer or glass of wine, and find a seat for the live Street Art Auction starting at 5 pm.

Bidding registration for the 18th annual Sturgeon Bay Street Art Auction begins at 4 pm under the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center auction registration tent in Martin Park. This year’s auction, presented by Associated Bank, features 25 unique benches that have decorated Sturgeon Bay streets throughout the summer season. Can’t attend the auction? Absentee bids are being accepted for those unable to attend. Cast your absentee bid at sturgeonbay.net, call 920.743.6246 or stop by the Visitor Center, 36 S. Third Ave., Sturgeon Bay. All events are open to the public free of charge.
