Hatch Distilling’s Gin Takes Best in Show at Honey Spirits Competition

Hatch Distilling’s gin-inspired spirit distilled from honey earned the top prize – Best in Show – at the National Honey Board’s third annual Honey Spirits Competition. It was one of more than 80 entrants in the competition, which recognizes the best spirits in the United States that use honey as a sweetener, flavor or distillate.

“The quality of spirits at this year’s event was remarkable, and we were excited to award more gold medals than we ever have before,” said Catherine Barry, director of marketing for the National Honey Board.

This year’s categories included vodka, brandy, moonshine, liqueurs, spirits distilled from honey, and spirits distilled from honey with flavors added. Nine spirits won gold medals, and more than 50 took home silver and bronze medals. An expert judging panel evaluated the entries on their appearance, nose, palate and the role honey played in their creation.

Hatch Distilling abides by the motto, “No Shortcuts. Honestly.” The efforts are paying off: This summer, the distillery was also one of 20 nominated for USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice award for Best New Craft Distillery, and it placed seventh.
