Hazardous Waste Collection Nov. 6 and 7

The Door County Highway Department is collecting your hazardous waste Nov. 6 in Sister Bay and Nov. 7 in Sturgeon Bay.

Common household products like lawn and garden pesticides, automotive fluids, leftover paints, and other potentially harmful chemicals can pose a significant threat to the environment if not disposed of properly.

Bring them to the Sturgeon Bay or Sister Bay collection site, where the highway department will collect them, recycle them, or dispose of them in an environmentally safe manner.

The Sister Bay site will be open Friday, Nov. 6 from 4 – 6 pm at the Sister Bay/ Liberty Grove Fire Dept at 2258 Mill Road. Sturgeon Bay will be collecting on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 8 – 11 am (or earlier if maximum volume is met) at the Door County Highway Dept. at 1001 S. Duluth. Please note this is a first come, first serve basis.

Citizens can bring aerosol cans, oven cleaners, batteries (not auto, boat, or ATV batteries), old gas, brake fluid, paint thinners, antifreeze, fertilizers, solvents and pool chemicals.

Items that won’t be accepted include computer components, medical waste, tires, prescription medications, ammunition, auto, boat, or ATV batteries, and oil (dispose of oil at the collection site on 14th Avenue in Sturgeon Bay).
