Health Care, Climate Change Intersect in Upcoming Program

Dr. Joel Charles

The Climate Change Coalition of Door County (climatechangedoorcounty.com) will host Dr. Joel Charles July 22, 6 pm, when he presents “Good Medicine: How Health Professionals and Systems Can Make Their Patients and Communities Healthier While Fighting Climate Change” at Crossroads at Big Creek, 2041 Michigan St. in Sturgeon Bay. 

Charles will discuss the health impacts that climate change and fossil-fuel use are having on patients, as well as the significant health opportunities of transitioning to clean energy. He will help attendees explore why and how health professionals and health systems can engage with this critical issue

Charles is a founder and chair of the Wisconsin Health Professionals for Climate Action, an advocate for equitable solutions for the climate crisis, a family physician practicing in rural southwest Wisconsin and the medical director of the Kickapoo Valley Medical Clinic. He earned his MD and Master of Public Health degrees from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine.
