Healthy Kids Day at the YMCA

The Door County YMCA hosts Healthy Kids Day this Saturday, April 24 from 9 am – 1 pm at the Sturgeon Bay Program Center. The day is designed to celebrate healthy living and encourage kids and families to get excited about physical activity and play together.

Family activities will be free and open to the entire community all day including bouncers, dozens of informational booths, free snacks, gymnastics try-it classes, Tae Kwon Do demonstrations, jump rope and hula-hoop contests, and door prizes. Use of both Door County YMCA facilities will be free all day and anyone who joins the YMCA will receive 50 percent off the joining fee.

Door County Memorial Hospital is the major sponsor for the day. Contact the Door County YMCA at 920.743.4949 for more information or visit http://www.doorcountyymca.org.

YMCA Healthy Kids Day is the nation’s largest health day for kids and families. YMCA Healthy Kids Day will be celebrated across the country at more than 1,700 YMCAs. Last year, more than 700,000 people participated in YMCA Healthy Kids Day events nationwide.

Studies show that kids who consistently engage in play are happier and healthier, and develop and enhance a variety of skills including motor skills, social skills, problem solving, and creativity. Experts recommend that kids engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day, which often results in higher self-esteem and better academic performance.
