Heather Powell Announces Resignation from Boys and Girls Club

On Sept. 23, Heather Powell, CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of Door County, announced to the board and staff that she was resigning her position. Powell has accepted a position in Bellingham, Wash., as the CEO of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Whatcom County.

In the last three years with the dedication of the staff and board, membership has grown by more than 800 percent and today average daily attendance is 115 members. Nearly one in three elementary-age students in the Sturgeon Bay School District are members of the club. New programs like the Monday Meal program, Teen Center programming and Power Hour were added to make sure that members’ needs, no matter what they are, are being met.

“This community needs a club; our participation in programming demonstrates that and I have been thrilled to work with a great team of people to make sure that every Door County child has an opportunity at a great future,” said Powell.

The board will meet in October to put a search committee together to begin the process of filling the vacancy. Powell’s last day will be Oct. 28 at the conclusion of the Monday Meal. “It is fitting that her last act would be to have one last meal with the members. This is the club program she is most passionate about,” said Julie Davis, director of operations for the club.
