Help Out at Pen Park

People can learn about volunteer opportunities at Peninsula State Park during a volunteer training program May 19.

“Perhaps you’re one of the people who first fell in love with Door County by camping at Peninsula State Park or someone who knows how important it is to share the wonder of nature with today’s children,” says Kathleen Harris, naturalist at the park. “This training program will present a variety of options for how people can help out at the park, such as staffing the family friendly nature center, taking on small woodworking projects, sprucing up the pollinator garden, or helping lead a nature or history program.”

Attendees at the training session will also learn about the efforts in the park to address emerald ash borer, beech bark disease and invasive species. There will also be an update on the park’s bat populations.

The program begins with a light lunch (provided) at noon at the White Cedar Nature Center. At 1 pm, Kelli Bruns, park superintendent, will host a question and answer time, followed by news from the park naturalists and invasive species coordinator. The training is free and open to the public. People who wish to attend volunteer training but who do not have a vehicle admission sticker, or need other information, can call 920.868.3258. RSVPs are appreciated.
