Help Restore Algoma’s Crescent Beach

Join Algoma’s Friends of Crescent Beach (FOCB) in its ongoing beach-restoration effort by helping to replace invasive species with native plants. Lovers of nature and Crescent Beach are encouraged to become Crescent Crew volunteers and attend an information session May 20, 6 pm, at Knudson Hall, 620 Lake St. in Algoma.

The first work day will be May 25, 9-10:30 am, with subsequent Tuesday workdays alternating between 9 am and 5 pm through the fall. On work days, the Crescent Crew will meet outside the Visitor Center, 1220 Lake Street. No gardening experience is required. Tools will be provided, but volunteers may also supply their own.

FOCB is also hosting a native planting May 15, 9:30 am – 12 pm. Help plant native flowering plants on the beach to prevent erosion, preserve wildlife habitat and discourage invasive species. All supplies will be provided, but volunteers are encouraged to supply their own gloves and trowels. Free refreshments and a native plant or plant seeds, compliments of Bird City Algoma, will be available to volunteers. Meet outside the Visitor Center. The rain date is May 22.
