Heritage Program Begins

Sister Bay Historical Society will kick off its annual Heritage Program on June 27 featuring artist David Hackett. He will display his work at the Historical Society’s Corner of the Past located 1½ miles south of Sister Bay just off Highway 57 at 10310 Fieldcrest Road from 8:30 am until noon.

While working as a graphic designer for two Milwaukee newspapers Hackett began developing his style of pen and ink drawings and watercolors. He first visited Door County in 1957 and immediately recognized the artistic potential of the scenery-rich county.

Hackett has won local, regional and national awards and has been the featured cover artist on the Key to the Door magazine. In 2009 Hackett was commissioned to paint a centennial montage for the Peninsula State Park’s 100th anniversary, an honor that was especially appropriate because his wife is the granddaughter of A. E. Doolittle, the park’s first superintendent. A sample of his work may be viewed online at hackettgallery.com. For more information about the Heritage Program, visit sisterbayhistory.org.
