Heritage Village Presents Model Train Displays

Toot! Toot! It’s train time at Heritage Village at Big Creek on July 22, 1 – 3 pm. The desks will be set aside and instead David Ward will set up two model train displays in the historic Vignes School.

One model train is a G-scale (stands for grade scale); it’s larger and meant to run outdoors in the garden. The setup features a double loop or spiral; it is a continuous circuit and the train goes up a spiral track and then crossovers to a downward spiral on the other side. The second setup is a small Z-scale train. Z-scale is the smallest model train scale.

Ward has been involved with model trains since boyhood when his dad had an American Flyer layout. He began his collection of G-scale trains in 1975 and has 180 feet of track, outside, that runs along the back of his house. He also has a G-scale model of the type of steam engine that used to run into Sturgeon Bay as part of the Ahnapee & Western Railroad. The model has A&W standards and bears the number 251.

The Heritage Village is located at 2041 Michigan St. in Sturgeon Bay. Hours are 10 am to 3 pm, and guests may tour all buildings prior to the train exhibit. Admission is $5 for adults 18 and older; there is no charge for children 17 and under. For more information, call 920.421.2332 or email [email protected].
