Hermke Timm Featured at UU Gallery in July

Born in Germany, Hermke Timm trained as an engraver and worked in Switzerland and Norway before returning to Germany to study art and design. In 1964, he emigrated to the U.S. and worked for many private mints as an independent engraver, creating tooling and designs for medallions and coins. In 1987, he founded Mint Masters, Inc. in Franklin Park, Ill. The Gerhard Miller Award and the Door County Masters Award were designed by Timm and struck by Mint Masters, which is now run by his children.

After vacationing in Door County for many years, he and his wife settled on Whitefish Bay, where he continues to work in his studio. Timm continues to experiment with printing from engravings, but he has turned to painting landscapes and portraits in egg tempura. When he deviates from these subjects into abstraction, he often prefers pastel, acrylic and watercolor. A range of these works will appear in this show.
