High School Home Construction Program Seeks Buyer

The Door Kewaunee Business & Education Partnership (DKBEP) is actively seeking a party motivated to have their new home built by the High School Home Construction Program in an effort to continue providing skilled learning opportunities for area youth.

The DKBEP High School Home Construction Program, established in 2007, has successfully built and sold four custom, high-quality homes in Sturgeon Bay and Luxemburg. Currently, 13 students are in the midst of the partnership’s fifth building project, which has been pre-sold thereby allowing the program to continue for the 2012/13 school year. The current contract project is for a custom 4,000 square foot auxiliary building located at Pagel’s Ponderosa Dairy in Kewaunee.

The High School Home Construction Program provides an opportunity to grow the local construction industry’s skilled workforce by providing real-world learning experiences for area youth. Up to 15 junior and senior high school students representing Gibraltar, Sevastopol, Sturgeon Bay and Southern Door school districts will have the opportunity to construct a home from start to finish under the guidance of an NWTC instructor and a project advisor representing an area building professional. Upon successful completion of the program, each student will earn 16 transcribed credits for advanced placement in the Wood Tech Technical Diploma one-year program at NWTC.
