High School Nursing Assistant Program Offered in Kewaunee County

The Door Kewaunee Business & Education Partnership (DKBEP), Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) and the Northeast Wisconsin Area Health Education Center (NEWAHEC) will once again collaborate this fall to offer nursing assistant training to high school juniors and seniors from Algoma, Kewaunee, Luxemburg Casco, and Southern Door High Schools during the 2010-11 academic year. The goal of the program is to provide students the opportunity to explore various health-related careers while helping to grow the regional healthcare industry’s skilled workforce.

With the recent passing of 2009-10 program graduate Alex L. Warecki, this year’s program will be dedicated in his honor.

“Alex exemplified what this program was all about,” said DKBEP Manager Tara LeClair, “After successfully completing his course work and receiving his certification this past spring, Alex quickly obtained local employment as a certified nursing assistant with aspirations to continue his education.”

During the 2010-11 school year, classroom and clinical instruction will be offered respectively at the NWTC-Luxemburg campus and Algoma Long Term Care Facility. LeClair added, “As a supplementary component of the program, students are assigned training at local healthcare facilities for practical, on-the-job experience at either Kewaunee Care Center, Algoma Long Term Care Unit, Anna’s Healthcare, or at the Golden Living Center/Dorchester.”
