Pete Claflin Returns to Southern Door Bench

Southern Door reached back into its past to fill its open boys basketball coaching position. Pete Claflin, who coached 20 seasons for the Eagles until 2011, will return to the bench next winter, taking over for Derik Hawkey, who resigned in March.

During Claflin’s tenure, the Eagles won three Packerland Conference titles, made two sectional appearances and made a trip to the Division 3 state tournament. The Eagles lost to Omro 57-52 in overtime in the semifinal.

“One of the main reasons that I decided to get back into coaching this season is the opportunity to coach my son, Ryan, who will be a senior this year,” Claflin said. Ryan Claflin averaged 15.5 points and 5.5 rebounds last winter.
