Highway Commissioner Urges Caution On Roads

From Door County Highway Commissioner John Kolodziej:

Snow and Ice control operations continue to go very slow due to the total volume of heavy wet snow and drifting conditions. Fortunately the wind has decreased, reducing the amount of drifting.

However, we are now starting to get a light mist that is freezing on the roadway throughout the County. This will require some reapplication of salt if it continues.

The State Highway system has been plowed and salted. With the higher temperatures the salt is very effective, but many locations are still snow covered and slippery.

About 95% of the County Roads have been plowed. The heavy snow is challenging on our equipment and we have had some breakdowns that is slowing our progress.

About 25% of Town and Village Roads have been plowed.

Roads that have not been plowed are not passable without a 4 wheel drive.

All travel continues to be very dangerous.
