Hike Safely at Crossroads

Feel safe while hiking at Crossroads at Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay. As the preserve is within the city limits, hunting is not permitted. Hikers and pets (on a leash and under control) are more than welcome during hunting season and any other time. One possible issue is: if there is enough snow for the ski trails to be groomed, hikers will be restricted to designated hiking trails.

On Nov. 21 at 10 am, hikers will gather at Crossroads and travel by vehicle for a one-hour exploration of the existing trails at the Ida Bay Forest. Sturdy shoes and a walking stick helpful. Meet at the Collins Learning Center. The hike is free and open to the public.

On Nov. 22, the Door Peninsula Astronomical Society will hold its November viewing night at the very civilized hour of 6:30 pm. Even at that early hour, the sky will be more than dark enough to see stars and planets, if it’s clear. If the sky is overcast, the gate will be closed. Check crossroadsatbigcreek.org for the cancelation notice. Dress for the weather. This program is free and open to the public. Use the Utah Street Entrance (turn left at the Cove Road intersection) and follow Star Gazer Trail to the Astronomy Campus.

Crossroads at Big Creek, located at 2041 Michigan St., is open 2 – 4:30 pm daily and during scheduled activities. All trails are free and open to the public.
