Hike This: Lautenbach Woods Nature Preserve

The Lautenbach Woods Nature Preserve is 160 acres of protected Door County Land Trust property just south of town in Egg Harbor. This short hike provides an excellent look at the Niagara Escarpment, and even in the early springtime, it’s a wonderful spot to see and hear birds after a long winter. Wide, level paths that are easy to walk bookend the trail, with an elevation change at the midway point that’s easy enough for even beginning hikers to traverse both ways.

Distance: 1.25 miles

Difficulty: Easy, with moderate inclines 

Highlights: Wide, well-maintained trails keep you from looking at your feet, freeing your eyes to look up and take in the scale of the dense pines, hardwoods and hemlocks.
