Hikes Galore at The Ridges Sanctuary

The Ridges Sanctuary is offering numerous hike opportunities. All events require advance registration at ridgessanctuary.org, and they meet at the Cook-Albert Fuller Nature Center, 8166 Hwy 57 in Baileys Harbor. Costs are $5 for members, $8 for the public and free for ages 18 and younger unless otherwise noted.

Join a guided hike Tuesdays through Fridays, 10 am, to see the Upper Range Light’s lantern room and historical cabins. These are limited to six participants.

The five-hike Ridges Trail Classic includes a guided Solitude Swale hike Sept. 22, 1-3 pm; and a guided Rustic Trails hike Sept. 24, 1-3 pm. Participate in all five hikes to receive a Ridges Trail Classic T-shirt. These hikes are limited to six participants.

Join local fossil hunter and expert Dave Bultman to identify prehistoric creatures and unearth local fossils Sept. 18, 9-10:30 am and 1-2:30 pm. The program will start with a brief lecture before going to Appel’s Bluff. Light hiking is involved, but no digging is required. The program is limited to eight participants. The cost is $17 for members and $20 for the public. The program is not suitable for ages 12 and younger.

Enjoy a night hike on the boardwalk Sept. 18 and 25, 8-9:30 pm. Learn about the creatures that become active after the sun goes down, and check out the range lights at work. Please do not take luminary devices. The hike is limited to six participants.

Join Tracy Hames, executive director of the Wisconsin Wetlands Association, on Sept. 26, 1-3 pm, to explore areas designated as Wetlands of International Importance by the Ramsar Convention of Wetlands. The cost is $17 for members and $20 for the public. This program is not suitable for ages 12 and younger.
