Historical Guides Available at Peninsula State Park

Don’t know much about history? The Friends of Peninsula State Park (FPSP) have a solution. Stop by Peninsula Headquarters or the Nature Center for a brand new historical sites guide (available September 1). The guide marks both long forgotten and still visible places. Priced at $2, it intends to inspire visitors to discover Peninsula’s incredible legacy. FPSP wish to thank Bill Klein, Jim Thorp, Fran Burton, Hank Eckert and Buck Eckert for helping to proof the final guide. The guide features several historic photos, including images shared by Roy Gauger and Naomi Burgbacher.

Peninsula will celebrate its 100th year in 2009. The historical sites guide is the second in a series of centennial publications. Peninsula is also offering visitors the chance to join the Peninsula 100 Club. Dues aren’t required, just a little time in the great outdoors. Log 100 miles (hiking, biking, skiing, running) and receive a FREE centennial hiking shield. Earn substitute miles by fishing, reading, golfing (without a power cart) and more. Ask for a Peninsula 100 log at Park Headquarters or the Nature Center. Find out more about this and other Peninsula centennial programs by visiting http://www.peninsulafriends.org.
