On Dec. 26 from 10 – 11 am, go on a Sentinel Trail snowshoe/walk while watching for animal tracks and signs. Meet near Eagle Tower with your own snowshoes.

On Dec. 27, 11 am – 2 pm, there will be a Reindeer Trail Treasure Hunt. This on-your-own family activity takes about 30 minutes. The park naturalist will be on hand to help visitors get started. Follow reindeer tracks near the Nature Center and receive special prizes at the end of the trail.

On Dec. 29 go on a Winter Woods Walk from 2 – 2:45 pm. Meet at the Nature Center. This walk, less than a half-mile, is designed for families with young children.

On Dec. 31, the Monte Cristo Campfire will be held from 12 – 1 pm. Monte Cristos cooked in pie irons are on the menu. Children who cook their own Monte Cristo must be assisted by an adult. Food and supplies provided (while supplies last), but donations are appreciated.

On Jan. 1, Peninsula State Park will sponsor a First Day Hike, offering visitors the opportunity to start the year off with a family-friendly trek led by Friends of Peninsula State Park. First Day hikers will meet near the Fish Creek entrance to the park at the Weborg picnic shelter at 10 am on New Year’s Day. They will walk an easy one to three mile route along the Sunset Bike Trail and Weborg Marsh. The event will conclude about noon, after hikers have warmed up in the shelter with hot drinks and cookies. Children are welcome with adult supervision, but pets are not allowed. Participants are advised to dress for the weather, with hiking boots or snowshoes. A state park vehicle sticker is required.
