Holiday Home Tour to Benefit Children

On Thanksgiving weekend, November 27 and 28, everyone is encouraged to get into the holiday spirit by taking the fourth Annual Holiday Home Tour for the Northern Door Children’s Center.

Five festively decorated homes open their doors to everyone, each having a special event or feature. The $20 self-guided tour takes place on Friday from 4 – 8 pm and Saturday from 10 am – 4 pm, and visitors are welcome to linger at each home as long as they want to enjoy the music, Christmas goodies, and holiday décor. Also, each home has a take-home sheet with the history of the house and each family’s Christmas traditions.

The five stops on Northern Door Children’s Center’s 2009 tour include:

Drakedّr Hus – 8354 Maple Valley Road in Juddville; The Van Houten Residence – 3846 Juddville Road, Juddville; The Heinrichs Residence – 8896 Spring Road, Fish Creek; Spangler Family Retreat – 8006 Hwy 57, Baileys Harbor; and The Berns Family Home – 8960 Sunset Drive, Baileys Harbor.

Those in the holiday spirit can also get a head start on Christmas cookies with a stop at the scrumptious Bake Shoppe at Calvary United Methodist Church, 5650 County E, Egg Harbor (no ticket required), and find time to stop by the Friends of Gibraltar Holiday Art Fair at the Sister Bay Village Hall (free-will donation).

Homeowner Dawn Bern sums it up: “Spending time with family reminds you that it’s not all about chaos and presents. It’s about spending time together.” All of these Door County families welcome you to spend time at their homes this Thanksgiving weekend.

Tickets are $20 apiece and can be purchased at Northern Door Children’s Center, local merchants, and online at http://www.northerndoorchildrenscenter.org. Or you can start at any of the homes and purchase a ticket on site on the days of the tour. Call 920.854.4244 for information.
