Holiday Music Motel Concludes Summer Concert Series

Sigmund Snopek III

The Holiday Music Motel concludes their Summer Concert Series with the music of Sigmund Snopek III and Colin O’Brien. The two artists will be performing on the Motel lawn from 5 – 7 pm on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, respectively.

Saturday’s concert features the prodigious multi-instrumentalist and composer Sigmund Snopek III. Snopek has toured worldwide for the past 25 years, 20 of those years as the keyboardist for indie-rock band The Violent Femmes. Snopek’s compositions have also been showcased by major cultural organizations such as the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and Present Music.

A participant of Sturgeon Bay’s Steel Bridge SongFest, Snopek began composing Steel Bridge Symphony in 2007. This multi-movement work incorporates various sound samples created by the historic Michigan Street Bridge currently undergoing a long awaited restoration.

Colin O’Brien

Sunday’s concert showcases the eclectic talents of Colin O’Brien’s “One Man Dancing Band.” Emerging from a strong background in classical music, O’Brien gravitated towards traditional folk styles of Americana roots music and shed his classical guitar for finger-style guitar, banjo and fiddle. O’Brien performs on a self-made platform which amplifies his “dancing foot percussion” as he plays. O’Brien has been featured on Prairie Home Companion, as well as National Public Radio’s World Café.

The concerts are free and open to the public, with non-alcoholic refreshments being served. Concertgoers are welcome and encouraged to bring their own refreshments and snacks of their choice.
