Holiday Spirit on Display at Maritime Museum

The “Merry-Time Festival of Trees” has returned to fill the Door County Maritime Museum’s exhibits with 37 uniquely decorated trees and wreaths donated by businesses, organizations and individuals in the community. Create a new holiday tradition for family and friends by joining in this festive event.

Every day is a “kid’s day” during the festival. Every child accompanied by an adult will receive free admission to the museum with a nominal Cana Island restoration donation with matching funds from ERA Starr Realty. The regular adult museum admission of $10 will apply and will include one free raffle ticket. At festival’s end, the winning tickets will be drawn. The winners will take home a fully decorated tree or wreath and all its associated gifts and goodies just in time for the holidays.

On Nov. 25, Merry-Time Fun Kid’s Day will be filled with excitement from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm. Bring the children in for the first-ever children’s raffle, a scavenger hunt, elf trivia, pumpkin tic-tac-toe, bean bag toss games, cookie decorating, and creative crafts. Children’s raffle items were donated by Child’s Play. The children’s raffle will be drawn at different times through the event. Children can also have their faces painted from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm.

On Dec. 2, 10 am – 1 pm, children will have the unique experience of telling Santa their secret wishes on the tug John Purves. Children’s entertainer Randy Peterson will perform Christmas favorites and more that day. Mouse in the Lighthouse author Sue Jarosh will be at the museum, too, signing her captivating book from 10 am to 2 pm. There will also be another children’s raffle with items donated by Dancing Bear.

The month-long event culminates with “Jingle, Jingle, Mix & Mingle” on Dec. 12, offering a bountiful reception, the opportunity to browse and bid on silent auction items and a dramatic live auction followed by the tree raffle giveaway. The silent auction features more than 70 baskets and artwork. Some historic and rare artwork is also being auctioned. There are six live auction items this year: a unique pizza party, the best Baileys Harbor Fourth of July package, seminar(s) and lodging from Björklunden, a jam-packed Washington Island experience, a relaxing wine-and-cheese sunset boat cruise, and jewelry from Draeb Jewelers. Space is limited for the Jingle Mixer. For tickets, call 920.743.5958. Tickets are $30 for museum members and $35 for non-members.
