Homage to Tall Ships

“Edith M. Becker” by Dan Eggert.

For his late summer show, Door County photographer Dan Eggert is excited to bring it back to the scene of his very first show: the cozy, relaxed environment of Mr. Helsinki’s Restaurant and Wine Bar. Eggert’s show will hang at Mr. Helsinki’s from August 1 through September 30, with the opening reception for the show planned for Aug. 7 from 5 – 7 pm.

“Mr. Helsinki’s is a meaningful place for me, as I worked there right when it first opened, and years later, I was able to hang my very first show on the walls, which was sponsored by Dave Eliot and the Peninsula Pulse,” Eggert says. “It’s a great space—the walls allow me to ‘go big’ with my work.”

Eggert’s photographic prints will vary in size and medium for the show, and will include everything from smaller single photographs and triptychs printed on aluminum and mounted on reclaimed barn wood to larger canvas prints and light boxes. Eggert is especially excited about two prints he’s working on which feature two boats from the annual Tall Ships Festival event in Sturgeon Bay. One of the pieces measures four feet high by six feet wide, and is framed to resemble a ship’s sail, with cedar beams and block and tackle for the hanging point. “The piece feels like an homage of sorts to the ship,” Eggert says. The other is a smaller gallery-wrapped canvas of the ship the foggy morning they sailed through Sturgeon Bay—a day that Eggert says was his favorite day of shooting.

In addition, Eggert has three pieces in the show for which he will be donating 10 percent of their proceeds to the Door County Land Trust. For more information, call 920.915.8931 or visit daneggertphotography.com.
