Homicide Victim Found in Door County

The victim of an alleged homicide was found at a resort in the town of Nasewaupee on Sunday, Aug. 19 around noon.

Police were notified of the incident by a man that said he had killed his girlfriend. He called the sheriff’s department from Bhirdo’s Shell station in Sister Bay, 35 miles north of where the victim’s body was found.

“[My sister] told me the gentleman came in very calmly, asked to use the phone to report a murder,” said Michelle Bhirdo-Pluff. “She had no idea that he had done it.”

The man stayed on the phone with police officers until they arrived at Bhirdo’s and went calmly when they took him into custody. He is now in the Door County jail awaiting formal charges.

The man and victim, a 21-year-old woman, are from Will County, Ill., and had been at a wedding on Saturday, Aug. 18 at The Log Den in Egg Harbor.

Door County sheriff Terry Vogel would not confirm the name of the resort, but other sources reported police activity outside the Sand Bay Beach Resort at noon on Sunday, Aug. 19.

More information about the incident will be available as police continue the investigation.
