Hope United Church and UUF Co-sponsor ‘Race’ Mini-series Screening, Discussions

Hope United Church of Christ and the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Door County (UUFDC) are co-sponsoring a screening of the three-part PBS mini-series, Race: The Power of an Illusion. Each screening is preceded by a light supper of soup and bread, and will be followed by a thoughtful, civil and honest community dialogue about America’s understandings of race and what it means for Door County. This event is free.

The screenings take place at Hope United Church of Christ in Sturgeon Bay on the following dates: Jan. 9, Episode 1 – The Difference Between Us; Jan. 16, Episode 2 – The Story We Tell; Jan. 23, Episode 3 – The House We Live In. Supper starts at 5 pm, with the screening following at 5:30.

Race isn’t a topic that is often discussed in Door County. Yet, as both a community of increasingly diverse year-round residents, and an international tourist destination attracting people of color from around the world as visitors and employees, Door County can only benefit from a deeper understanding of what race is, what it isn’t, and why it continues to be such a troubling idea in America today.
