How Pictures Work in Picture Books

Nancy Carlson

Write On, Door County presents award-winning author and illustrator Nancy Carlson in a special day-long workshop, “How Pictures Work in Picture Books,” on May 3, 9 am – 5 pm. Tuition for the workshop is $125, which includes a light lunch. Enrollment is limited to 10.

If you are not an illustrator, how do you write a picture book? Carlson will discuss classic picture books as well as newer titles to show how pictures work with text. She will also show storyboards and dummies of picture books. If you have a picture book manuscript in progress, bring it to share for feedback. If you have an idea for a picture book, but haven’t yet started it, this workshop is ideal for you.

As an author and an illustrator, Nancy Carlson has published more than 60 highly acclaimed picture books. Her most recent book, published this month, is Armond Goes to a Party, a book about Asperger’s and friendship. Other titles include Look Out Kindergarten, Here I Come, How About a Hug?, and Loudmouth George and the New Neighbors.

The workshop is open to both writers and illustrators who want to write. To register for the workshop, contact Write On, Door County at 920.868.1457 or [email protected].
