Humane Society Now Hosts Birthday Parties

Guests at recent birthday party return from a scavenger hunt on the trails at the Door County Humane Society, accompanied by volunteer Sue Kubley.

The interaction of kids and animals is encouraged at the Door County Humane Society (DCHS) and that’s the thought behind a new offering: birthday parties on Sunday afternoons at the facility. Beginning June 1, parents can book a party, and choose between two levels of birthday packages ranging in price from $225 to $275, and designed for children from 6 to 12 years in age.

Parties start with tours of the adoption guarantee shelter, followed by age and gender-appropriate activities. Depending on the weather, there may be indoor crafts or outdoor hunts along the walking trails of the DCHS property on County Road PD. The birthday child has the privilege of naming the next adoptable animal to arrive.

“Hosting birthday parties is common at many humane societies,” explained Executive Director Carrie Counihan. “It was not possible for us until we were settled in our larger building, but now we are delighted to roll out the birthday party program to our community.”

There is a 20 percent adoption fee discount for the family of any child attending a party, extending 14 days after the party date. For more information, call 920.746.1111 or visit dooranimals.com.
