HUMOR

Peninsula Pulse Senior Correspondent Bjorn Bakken reports on the political scene in Fish Creek, Ephraim, and Ellison Bay on a continuing but irregular schedule, with emphasis on town and village meetings he cannot always attend. Here is his dispatch filed 3 September, 2008:

Directors of the Ephraim Fire District No. 4 met with common council chairman Hjalmar Swenson and representatives of the Ephraim-Gibraltar Airport for the eighth session in as many weeks to discuss the frequently raised topic of re-naming the airport. As commissioner Lute Swenson put it, “Pilots hop out of their plane and ask, ‘Where’s Ephraim?’ Nobody asks about Gibraltar.” Those present thought that “Ephraim International Airport” had a nice ring to it, but there was a rumble in the crowd about whether Gibraltar would financially support a field lacking its name. No action was taken.

In other developments, someone in attendance asked who was responsible for the hubcaps thrown onto the roof of Village Hall. Supervisor Swenson told the concerned citizen that the hubcaps were in fact, actually satellite receivers.
