“Hungry? Food & Art” Opens at The Eclipse Gallery

Installation by Mindy Sue Meyers.

The public is invited to the opening reception of “Hungry? Food & Art” between 5:30 – 9 pm on April 10. The event is free and refreshments will be served. Several artists included in the show will be in attendance.

“Hungry? Food & Art” features a select group of artists working with food or food-related themes as their primary subject matter. Artists include: Mindy Sue Meyers, a Green Bay artist known for her unique textile work; Joe Singewald, local Algoma ceramicist; Lorraine Kwan, a Canadian mail artist; Matthew Best, a Connecticut artist sharing his sketches about suburban foraging; Lindsay Stern, a collage artist from Michigan; Peet Cocke, a California artist presenting a unique installation; Drew Schmidt, an area artist working in multimedia; Kasey Hembel, a Green Bay fine art photographer; and Jason Houge, a local Algoma artist.

The show is curated by Sarah Elizabeth Condon, who states, “Throughout history, food has been a popular choice of subject matter for artists – the artists I have chosen for this show are exploring food and food-related concepts in new and exciting ways. This artwork is not your typical still life with fruit – each artist has used a different medium to create work that is unique and thought-provoking.”

A canned food drive will be held throughout the show to benefit an area charity. The exhibition will run through June 30. The Eclipse Gallery is located at 507 Fourth St. (Hwy 42) Algoma, WI 54201.
