Hunter-Education Sign-Up Day is March 26

Interested in hunter and firearm safety? Enroll in a Wisconsin hunter-education course beginning the week of April 25 in Sturgeon Bay.

Anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1973, must have completed a hunter-education course and show the certificate to purchase any hunting license in Wisconsin unless they will be hunting under the hunting mentorship program. Anyone of any age may take the class. Students with special needs must contact the instructor at least two weeks in advance of the course to request special accommodations.

The course instills the knowledge and skills necessary to be a responsible, safe hunter by showing what causes hunting accidents and how they can be prevented. The format consists of lectures, demonstrations, group discussions, practical exercises and individual study and activity assignments.

The cost is $10 per student. In-person enrollment will be held March 26, 10 am – 1 pm, at Howie’s Tackle, 1309 Green Bay Road in Sturgeon Bay. The course is limited to 30 students on a first-come, first-served basis, and a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources customer ID number will be required to enroll. Online registration will be made available to enroll in any unfilled openings at
