Hwy. 57 Construction North of Baileys Harbor Begins Sept. 5

Gov. Scott Walker recently approved $4.3 million to improve eight miles of Hwy 57 from Baileys Harbor to Sister Bay. Construction begins Tuesday, Sept. 5, and will finish next June. Work will cease for winter between November 2017 and May 2018. Highway 57 will be closed and detoured beginning Tuesday, and will reopen prior to Oct. 13 for Fall Fest weekend. All other work will be completed under open roadway conditions using flagging operations. Northeast Asphalt, Inc., from Greenville, Wis. is the prime contractor. Motorists will benefit from a smoother pavement surface and improved safety due to new pavement markings and more reflective signing. The area will experience better drainage due to grading and culvert replacement. Motorists are reminded fines double in work zones. Please slow down and never drive distracted in this or any road construction work zone. For detailed information regarding the project, see projects.511wi.gov/wis57/.
