Hymn Sing to Benefit Defibs 4 Door County

The people of Zion United Methodist Church near Baileys Harbor are excited that the freewill offering from their annual Labor Day hymn sing will go to a project that can save many lives in Door County.

The hymn sing, to be held Sunday, Sept. 4, 5 pm, will benefit Defibs 4 Door County, a fundraising effort sponsored by the Door County Fire Chiefs Association. An anonymous $75,000 donation/matching challenge began the campaign, and local donations to date total $64,000.

If the goal is met, the total $150,0000 will be spent on about 80 new defibrillators for not only law, fire and EMS responders, but also for schools, places of worship, businesses and venues that frequently attract large crowds.

Zion’s hymn sings began in 1993 at the 147-year-old country church at 8781 Cty F. Since then, offerings of about $40,000 have been raised and donated to agencies that benefit people in Door County.

All are invited to the hymn sing. The Rev. Don Heeringa will be the song leader, and Joan Vahey will be the accompanist. Refreshments will be served. The Rev. Michael Morris is the pastor of Zion United Methodist Church.
