I Get a Kick Out of Cole

Judith Jackson, on piano, and Cynthia Stiehl, mezzo soprano, will perform Cole Porter classics at Birch Creek on Oct. 22.

Birch Creek continues a tradition of excellence with the upcoming fall concert, “I Get A Kick Out of Cole,” featuring Cynthia Stiehl, mezzo soprano, and pianist Judith Jackson on October 22 in Juniper Hall. In a 1930s style dinner party setting, concertgoers will enjoy a concert comprised of the familiar works of Cole Porter.

Known for her recitals of American art song, opera and musical theater, Stiehl’s repertoire extends from Bach to Gershwin and beyond. She has appeared as guest soloist with symphonies, choirs, and ensembles in Florida, Massachusetts, Oregon, and Wisconsin. Door County audiences are familiar with Stiehl’s numerous benefit performances for local non-profit organizations including Birch Creek, Peninsula Music Festival, and Door County YMCA. She has several CDs to her credit, most notably her recital with John Browning recorded at Bjorklunden.

Jackson is a pianist, accompanist and vocal coach. She was formerly principal pianist of Chicago Opera Theater, the national auditions pianist of the San Francisco Opera and the auditions pianist for the MacAllister International Opera Competition. The Metropolitan Opera engaged her to judge its regional and district final auditions in Denver, Colorado. In Door County, where she permanently resides, Jackson is a member of the Peninsula Music Festival (PMF) Orchestra.

Doors will open at 5:30 pm for social time, cash bar, and canapés. Dinner, based on a 1930s menu from the Waldorf Astoria hotel, will be served at 6 pm followed by the concert. Desserts will complete the evening. Tickets are $60 per person; advanced reservations are required by October 17. For more information or to make a reservation call 920.868.3763.
