Exhibit #3 at Idea Gallery features four artists from across the country and runs from Aug. 17 through Sept. 13 with an opening reception Aug. 19, 4 – 7 pm. Artists in the exhibit are Ryan Archibald, Brian Pirman, Wendi Michelle Turchan and Briggite McReynolds. Meet the artists, and their works, at the opening reception.
Archibald received his BFA from Southern Illinois University in 2013 and continued his ceramic education in Minnesota at the Northern Clay Center Pottery Studio. His ceramic works are driven by the contrast of geometry and line with the unpredictable nature of soda firing.
Pirman has been designing professionally for 35 years. He showcases digital graphics with digital imaging that involves electronic image manipulation focusing on color, form, texture and patterns.
Time and place are explored in the paintings of Turchan, an Appleton-based painter. She wanders and observes shapes, movement and changing qualities of light. She said, “Colors, forms, and edges act as a hinge between real and imagined conditions. Shapes are repeated and layered depicting levels of concealment and revealing unexpected forms.”
In McReynolds’ series, The Water in You, she questions, “Isn’t it interesting that the water-to-land ratio on the earth’s surface and the water-to-mass ratio in a human body is about the same?…I wanted to create a body of work that would reflect on what we are made of. I wanted to create abstract paintings that could be interpreted as landscapes, but also picture what it feels like living inside a body.”
