The Idlewild Thursday-Morning Senior Golf League – a casual league in which any man age 50 or older may show up and play that day, whether once a season or every week – is making some changes.
On Aug. 1, the time will change from 8:15 am to 8:30 am. And, after more than 15 years, the Harold Forbes leadership era fully transitioned to new coordinator Mark Jinkins on July 1.
Jinkins said, “Any male golfer simply shows up around 8 am, registers, pays the special league green and cart fees, throws a dollar (yes, $1) in the event box, and proceeds to the front or back as assigned. … ‘Teams’ generally begin teeing off as soon as a foursome is achieved … with the last off by the 8:30 league time.” On July 11, there were 17 individuals.
The league officially ends the Thursday after Labor Day with a special round of prizes and a nosh after 11 am. Jinkins said that unofficially, the league will continue “until the snow flies.” The league meets occasionally on Friday when Idlewild has a special event on a Thursday morning.
