Immanuel Lutheran Church and Northern Door Children’s Center Partner for Madagascar Book Drive

Immanuel Lutheran Church of Baileys Harbor and Northern Door Children’s Center in Sister Bay are partnering for the Madagascar Book Drive. Reverend Sue Gunderson of Immanuel Lutheran Church, members of her congregation and the staff and families of Northern Door Children’s Center (NDCC) are partnering for a very special book drive. Reverend Gunderson, who has made several mission trips to Madagascar, is spearheading the collection of children’s books for Hope School, which provides education for homeless children.

The local language on Madagascar is called Malagasy, but the majority of the population reads, writes and speaks French. Immanuel Lutheran and NDCC are collecting books in English or in French, aimed at children ages 6 to 13, but will gladly take preschool books as well. They are also collecting donations to support the mission to Hope School.

The Rotary Club of Door County North is paying the cost of a container to send books, as well as other donated items, to Madagascar by ship. Some of the books will travel on the plane in large suitcases.

Anyone interested in donating books can bring them either to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 7973 Hwy. 57, Baileys Harbor or to Northern Door Children’s Center, 10520 Judith Blazer Drive, Sister Bay. For more information, call Immanuel Lutheran (920.839.2224) or NDCC (920.854.4244). To make a direct donation visit youcaring.com/themadagascarmission.
