Immersed in the Lyrics of Bob Dylan

There are many galleries in Door County, but the space and design of Peninsula School of Art’s Guenzel Gallery is one of the most unique. The gallery is a decagon (10-sided geometric form). The high ceilings and various levels make it the perfect space for the installation it now holds – Shakespeare’s in the Alley:  A Tribute to Bob Dylan.

Created by local Baileys Harbor visual artist Skye, 44 fabric panels are hanging with each panel reflecting a different Bob Dylan lyric from his long and ongoing career. The installation encompasses five decades of Dylan’s work.

The exhibit at Peninsula School of Art, described by one viewer as a “waterfall of lyrics,” will be up through March 17.

Skye said of the exhibit, “It is a sanctuary of sorts, a place to be inspired by words and rhyme, immersed in an environment, perhaps moved to search out the music of a particular song lyric or write your own song or poem. The work is both historical and contemporary, abstract and literal. Enlarging words changes the effect of them. It is not the same to read the lyrics in a book as it is to read them on a 27-foot-long panel.”

The installation will travel next to Duluth, Minn., Bob Dylan’s birthplace, to be part of the 8th Annual Duluth Dylan Fest and will be installed in the Grand Hall of the Duluth Depot, May 20-27.

Guenzel Gallery, located at 3900 Cty F in Fish Creek, is open 8 am – 5 pm, Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, call 920.868.3455 or visit peninsulaschoolofart.org.
